CommunitieS

ALECS - Animal Education for Communities is an NGO working in communities around Hoedspruit in Limpopo, South Africa. Animals in rural areas face numerous challenges and it is ALECS’s aim to implement and uphold the Five Freedoms of Animals. We thrive for sustainable change by helping and educating animal guardians. We establish long term relationships with animal owners and thrive for sustainable change by helping and educating villagers – young and old.
Christine Otto, a qualified biologist, is working with animals since 1992 and is actively involved in animal welfare over two decades.
She founded ALECS in 2021 with a clear vision and a strong compassion for animals, committed to marking a sustainable difference to animals and people.

Animals in Care
In order to help animals effectively, we take sick or abandoned dogs into foster care until they are cured and able to return home, or until we find a suitable home for them. Our care station is run 100% on donations.

Meet some of the doggies in need, residing with ALECS.
Francolin

Little Francolin is one of the many homeless dogs living in forster care with ALECS. Each surrendered dog deserves a good forever home. But to find this perfect home takes time and money.

If you would like to sponsor one of them, only R400.00 will finance one dog per month.
